Cosmic Tapestry: NASA’s Planet-Hunting TESS Unveils Its Most Complete All-Sky Map

NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) has released its most comprehensive and dazzling all-sky mosaic to date. Combining 96 sectors observed from its launch in 2018 through September 2025, this stunning panoramic masterpiece serves as an invaluable celestial map for humanity.

Dotted across this breathtaking portrait are nearly 6,000 alien worlds, featuring 679 confirmed exoplanets (marked in blue) and 5,165 promising candidates (marked in orange). This cosmic menagerie includes extreme worlds, from volcanic infernos to rare planets orbiting two suns—experiencing double sunrises and sunsets every single day.

With the glowing arc of the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds beautifully detailed, the mosaic highlights the incredible power of TESS’s four cameras. Beyond finding planets, TESS continues to monitor near-Earth asteroids and study galactic dynamics, offering an inspiring glimpse into the endless wonders of our universe.
